Precious Heart Romances to be dramatized on television
bansa in-terms of readership.
“It’s light, it’s romantic. It’s also well-recommended by the publisher. Si Rose Tan kasi, sila yung mga sikat na writers. ‘Yung Kristine naman, we’re already on a pre-production for it. Malaki kasi ang magnitude ng Kristine. It’s something na kailangan naming planuhin.”
“Well, inevitably, but there was a lot of limitations kasi. Hindi naman lahat ng artista sa atin will fit dun sa description sa libro. So, we made adjustments. Pero, marami rin naman ang hindi nakabasa that will enjoy it. I suppose, meron talagang maiinis na bakit ganyan, hindi ganyan sa libro? But story, we’ll keep it.”
Like right now, sa Star Magic, we’re willing to have a search sa kung sino ang puwedeng maging bida and find who can fit. Baka nga minsan, mas safe pa yun dahil kapag artista, meron na silang image ng artista sa isip
nila.”
JERRY SINENENG TAKES OVER. Pero dahil sa biglaang pagkamatay ng kanyang asawa, Direk Jerry Sineneng will now be
the director of “Bud Brothers.”
“Dapat kasi, nag-taping na kami noong Tuesday [March 31]. Biglaan, Sunday nangyari yun [the death of Direk Cathy's husband]. Tapos, kausap ko siya kaninang umaga, siyempre, hindi ako maka-buwelo sa kanya dahil sa nangyari. But she called me up.
So, sa mga hindi nakakabasa, this is their chance to get to know rin kung gaano ka-rich ang pop-literary culture ng Filipino.”
Ngayong May na ie-ere ang pilot episode ng “Bud Brothers” na tatampukan for the first time ng team-up nina Jake Cuenca at Cristine Reyes.
Bukod dito ay ang iba pang Kapamilya pairs na sina Mariel Rodriguez and Rafael Rosell; Joem Bascon and Wendy Valdez; Janna Dominguez and Manuel Chua; Guji Lorenzana and Roxanne Guinoo; Will Devaughn and
Valerie Concepcion; at Aaron Villena and Maricar Reyes
Brothers.

TWENTY bright-eyed, young hopefuls make up Star Circle Batch 16, ABS-CBN’s newest bets for stardom.
Introduced to the press by way of a song and dance presentation at the network’s 9501 Executive Lounge, this year’s Star Circle is also in celebration of the 16th anniversary of Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent development arm headed by Johnny Manahan.
Ten boys and ten girls, whose ages range from 13 to 25, make up Batch 16, a big number any way you look at it. The batch, happily, is just as big in talent.
They entered the stage bursting into a song and dance cut from ‘High School Musical.’ The number was led by 25-year old Guji Lorenzana and Michaela Melania. Guji’s a songwriter and theater actor who has released a solo album. He’s also in the cast of the now-showing ‘West Side Story.’
Michaela, 18, is half-German, a student of fashion design back home in Germany. The 20-strong ensemble charged the air with youthful exuberance and enthusiasm that was, to say the least, infectious.
Meet the rest of the girls in this space today.
Kristel Moreno. Seventeen-year old niece to Alma Moreno, cast in ‘Betty La Fea ‘ as one of the mean girls.
Erika Padilla. Budding host is 21, has a Political Science degree from Ateneo de Manila, an entrepreneur managing two franchise stores.
Vangie Martelle. The youngest at 13 is a promising singer, who acts in PETA plays. This half-German hails from Davao City.
Auriette Divina. At 18, she has finished several singing workshops, believes she’s ready for the world. A print ad model and student of culinary arts.
Dominique Llamas. Athletic type from Bacolod wants to host a sports show, become a VJ, between her Communication Technology Management studies at Ateneo de Manila.
Kristina Snell. Half-British 16-year old has done a few print ads. Studies communication arts.
Cheska Ortega. A familiar figure at age 16. She played lead in the local edition of High School Musical.
Heidi Riego, 20. Born and raised in Oakland, California, has a degree in Education, minor in Dance from the University of California-Riverside.
Kaye Garcia. Balikbayan from the US used to study at Ateneo de Davao but has recently transferred to College of Saint Benilde to take up Diplomatic Affairs. Nineteen-year old Dean’s Lister wants to be TV host and actress.

Without Your Love is well on it’s way to be available nationwide (and
worldwide), and PR is positioning into place as we get in gear to
promote the brand new album. I am super excited about how things are
turning out… from the packaging of the album, to the over all concept
of this brand new project.
Kasalanan Ba? - the newest and latest single is about to hit the airwaves, and the music video is a month in the making.
Yes a month!
Why a month you ask? …. because of special effects, graphics, animation!!
I
am super excited to be doing a video like this. It has always been a
dream of mine to be in a horror/science fiction flick, acting along
side special effects gimmicks like a blue screen. And when Enzo Valdez
(Rivermaya, Stonefree, Viva Films Super Noypi) came to me with this
animated sci-fi vision of Kasalanan Ba… I knew that I had to work
with Enzo - whom is one of the fasting rising young animator/screen
writers/director stars to hit the industry.
In addition to
working with Enzo, it was a pleasure to work with one of my good
friends, Patty Laurel, whom I first met on the set of Breakfast (Studio
23, Abs-Cbn). She has a great presence and is a ball of energy! We were
a bunch of goof balls on the set! Check out our MYX interview on MYX
NEWS this week!

To the edge and back
By Jamie Rose Santos
Another Amboy singer
clawing his way into the Pinoy music scene? From an auditionee in American Idol
3 to possibly a new local pop star, Guji Lorenzana assures would-be listeners
that there’s more to him than the Fil-Am hype.
WHAT CAN YOU do when the you-deserve-someone-better line is
thrown at you and then a door slams on your face? "When you get hurt it just
hurts, "Guji Lorenzana candidly admits about a break-up, while nervously
shifting in his seat. But why not use the break-up as a catharsis of sorts- like
go to the Philippines,
pursue a career in music, and end up performing on stage in an act christened
as "edgy pop?" Sounds better? After all, this Am-boy knows his craft well
enough, and his singing career is something he just wouldn’t give up,
broken-hearted or not.
"[I know] I
can make it. Everything is possible," proclaims Guji. "So here I am now and
(making music is what) I’ve been doing."
Before he came
to Manila with hopes of making it big in the OPM
scene, 25-year-old Guji had a life back in California. The singer says he used to wear
glasses, played trombone in a school band, and served as an altar boy in
church. "I was so nerdy," he shares. "I barely had any friends because I liked
to be by myself."
He took
Theater Arts in the University
of California, which
allowed him to get a role in the Broadway musical RENT in New York, and at the same time he
performed with a boyband called Hipe. He had many things going for him,
including a possible slot in season three of American Idol. But what would propel his decision to finally get
serious about music was when he got his heart broken by a girl he met at work.
One event causes another. Now, Guji’s full attention is on his first
full-length album, Without Your Love,
to be released under Anirak Records.
So what’s
with the "edgy pop" tag? "We made if up," laughs Karin Araneta, Guji’s manager.
"Because that’s what it is. It’s like
pop pero hindi siya balladeer." Guji likens it to mixing Gavin Degraw with
Maroon 5 and adding a dash of Robbie Williams. "The thing is, you wouldn’t know what edgy pop is until
you see me perform," he kids.
His album
includes the carrier single "Tagumpay" and "I’ll Be Yours Forever," which sound
more like rock ballads. "[It is] to show the OPM community that I can sing like
that," Guji remarks. He lists Maroon 5, Robbie Williams, Michael Jackson, and
Gary Valenciano as his music influences. It may be ironic for someone who does
"edgy pop" to confess that he wears his heart on his sleeve but he only has his
parents to thank. "To this day, they’re so in love," shares Guji. "I’m a
hopeless romantic. I’m the first to cry all the time."
It took
Guji about a year and a half to get his album done, but his newfound Christian
faith has allowed him to deal with the challenge in a positive way. "I learned
a lot about the industry (in that time). I met a lot of people, and I
began to understand that being an American is not an advantage." Guji
reflects. "It’s really music; it’s really your talent that counts." And even
with comments like "he doesn’t have any idea what his music is" or "he could be
better off with R&B," Guji has a simple answer. "I’m not trying to be a Sam Milby and I’m not taking the avenue most
Fil-Ams have taken," he explains. "I do know my music and I’m really taking
this seriously as a musician. That’s what I want to portray."
Whatever
happens, Guji is fine just doing what he wants to do now. "You just really have
to be an artist. You have to keep going and keep coming up with new things,"
Guji shares. "We can’t let anything discourage us." This Guji, he’s a trooper.

Hoisting the sails of style:
Port Penshoppe tours Pier One
Port Penshoppe hoisted the sails of style over Metro
Manila this summer in an exciting series of fashion and music
events. Port Penshoppe docked at Pier One Roxas Boulevard, then
sailed on to Pier One Ortigas, and finally dropped anchor at Pier
One The Fort.
Penshoppe’s summer collection
is a combination of timeless appeal of navy and the hip attitude of
punk. Clothes and accessories from the Port Penshoppe line are a mix
of classic nautical reds, whites and blues—reinvented with a
modern, fun and adventurous twist.
Summer style blew full steam
ahead as Port Penshoppe’s style ambassadors walked the planks of
the runway in a shipwreck-chic fashion show. The show featured
celebrity endorsers and household names Heart Evangelista and
Jericho Rosales together with the rest Club Pen—teen actress Nikki
Gil, go-karting prince Matteo Guidicelli, and models Vicky Herrera,
Dawn Balagot, Einar Ingebrigsten and Victor Basa—decked out in the
latest collection.
Led by Grand Star Dreamer Yeng
Constantino, Penshoppe Dream Honors List members Jay-R Siaboc,
Ronnie Liang, Chad Peralta, Irish Fullerton and Panky Trinidad also
joined the fun. Event host JC Cuadrado unlocked the treasure chest
of party gimmicks, games and challenges for the event goers. The
party went from cruisin’ to rockin’ as revelers chugged
signature Port Penshoppe cocktails Admiral Pen and Pen Mariner and
raced all over Pier One in an exciting series of treasure hunts and
drinking games.
Powerhouse performances from
up-and-coming singer Chris Cayzer, Kala, Guji Lorenzana, Silent
Sanctuary and Mojofly kept the party going at Pier One Roxas
Boulevard and Ortigas while Bamboo brought the events to a rockin’
close at Pier One The Fort with Stonefree, the Itchyworms and
Brownman Revival.
Amid a sea of the usual summer
parties and staid fashion, Port Penshoppe truly rocked the boat with
its series of Pier One events and its ship of chic continues to sail
for the young fashionistas, bringing all-out fun, great music and
the hippest fashion to youth all over the country.![]()
Tagumpay is the perfect idea to have in mind as I begin this
post. I can’t help but tear up when I watch the finished product of Tagumpay. I
have seen it over and over again as this day has passed, and I am still in awe
with how it turned out.
Tagumpay! I say it again because words are energy. As the
first single and the first music video to debut from my full length release –
it is only natural to start off believing in the success of the “Guji
Lorenzana” project. I don’t will it, want it, or need it – but I already have
it, and believing in this makes it reality this very moment.
The shoot was a very tiresome one, both emotionally and
physically. The filming was done in Ilocos, which is where my family originally
came from. It was a great feeling to be walking the same land that my family
once lived on, and was almost like a pilgrimage just being there, getting in
touch with my real roots – not just Filipino, but Ilocano.
The trip started out as a 12 hour drive north from
Manila
. We and the “Tagumpay”
crew arrived at the first shoot location early in the morning on Saturday,
March 17th. We immediately began shooting, and continued throughout
the day until sunset. The fatigue was finally setting in towards the end of the
day – as the crew grew anxious to finish while bug bites and flying insects
began to be more annoying than usual – not to mention we haven’t bathed for
almost 2 days by this time.
The locations we went to were amazing. I couldn’t believe
that the rest of the world was oblivious that something like this existed – not
to mention this place being here in the
Philippines
. I just knew that there
was so much more I had to do with my life – and that meant exploring more of
this land which I now call home.
The food was Ilocano throughout our stay in Ilocos. Thanks
to the Marcos family, we were able to film in private locations, kept secret
and away from day-to-day passer byers. Our location manager, Al was a huge
help. He was an expert historian of the land, and he knew exactly the ideal
places to do the shoots. Many of the locations didn’t make it into the final
editing of the music video, but maybe in a re-release VCD, we can have the
other locations as a bonus feature.
After a tiresome weekend, and long drive back, I was brought
back to reality – a realization that this life is really my reality. After
reviewing the final cut, I feel privileged to be doing what I love doing, and
thank God that he has paved the way for all of this. When I see the video, I
see what it can be and will become - and what it already is. I am made for
this, and I can’t help but be excited for what’s next.
TAGUMPAY!
